In the image below, a visual description of the Property Tax Bill is available for customer convenience. There are several notable elements of a Property Tax Bill, indicated by the explanation in red text.
Account Number. This is a unique number assigned to each property. Please refer to this number when contacting the Tax Collector’s Office with any questions.
Property Owner(s). Verify the ownership. If there are multiple owners, the first two appear on the tax bill; the others are in the tax roll in our system. Owners are listed in the order in which they appear on the deed. (Please note, if you have sold this property, forward the notice to the new owners or return it to the Tax Collector’s Office.)
Mailing Address. If your mailing address has changed, the Property Appraiser’s Office advises that you complete a Mailing/Email Address Change Request form to submit to their office. Click here for that form.
Legal Description. The legal description of the property is most often listed in its entirety. However, in cases when the description is longer than can fit onto the bill, the full legal address can be viewed online at the Tax Collector’s and Property Appraiser’s websites. If any errors are found, notify the Property Appraiser’s Office immediately.
Important Message Area. In this section at the top of the tax bill, any applicable messages associated with your account will appear. If an alert for back taxes due appears, contact the Tax Collector’s Office.
Total Taxes and Assessments. The values listed in these boxes offer a breakdown of the applicable millage rate, assessed value, any exemptions, taxable value, and taxes levied.
- Taxing Authority: Authorities such as the county commission set the millage rates within their jurisdictions.
- Millage Rate: This is the dollar amount to be paid in taxes for every $1,000 of value property is appraised.
- Assessed Value: The Property Appraiser determines the value of the property.
- Exemption: There are various exemptions available, which will be listed here if applicable. Contact the Property Appraiser’s Office with any questions.
Amount Due. Pay only one amount. The totals in each box reflect the discount a customer can receive for early payment by month; the discount by month begins in November and lessens through February. There is no discount for paying in March when taxes are due.
