Overview of Transaction Costs
We continue to work at reducing costs...
Convenience Fee Information
Due to state law, credit card company practices/policies, and costs, convenience fees are charged for specified credit/debit card payment transactions. Convenience fees are not charged by the Tax Collector’s Office for specified online and mail-in payment transactions where processing efficiencies sufficiently offset credit/debit card costs. All payment transactions conducted by credit/debit card or e-check for payment to the Tax Collector’s Office are electronically processed by an authorized third a party payment vendor.
Note: Because of state law and credit card company practices/policies most private businesses do not charge convenience fees and instead pass along credit/debit card costs to all of their customers, including those paying by cash or check. As such, the cost of accepting credit/debit cards is factored into the total overhead of their business and price their customer pays for the product or service. Under state law, Tax Collectors are limited in engaging in similar practices.
