Convenience Fee Information
Due to state law, credit card company practices/policies, and costs, convenience fees are charged for property tax and tourist development tax transactions, as well as for all walk-in payment transactions conducted by credit/debit card. Convenience fees are not charged by the Tax Collector’s Office for specified online and mail-in payment transactions (see above table) where processing efficiencies sufficiently offset credit/debit card costs.
Also, all payment transactions to the Tax Collector’s Office conducted by credit/debit card or e-check are electronically processed over the internet by PointandPay, an authorized third a party payment vendor. At this time, credit card payments and e-checks are generally accepted for specified online payments by way of www.PolkTaxes.com and www.ClickorStick.com as well as for walk-in payment transactions conducted with credit/debit cards at all Tax Collector’s Office locations in Polk County.
Note: Because of credit card company practices/policies most private businesses do not charge convenience fees and instead pass along credit/debit card costs to all of their customers, including those paying by cash or check. As such, the cost of accepting credit/debit cards is factored into the total overhead of their business and price their customer pays for the product or service.
