TAX COLLECTOR SENDING TAX NOTICES

TAX COLLECTOR SENDING TAX NOTICES

10/31/99 - BARTOW

Joe G. Tedder, Tax Collector, reports that his office will mail out its annual property tax notices to all of Polk County?s property owners on Monday, November 1, 1999.

The taxes due are for the 1999 tax roll, which had a total parcel count of 356,522 for a total taxable amount of $306,863,887. In comparison, last year?s 1998 tax roll had a total parcel count of 343,128 for a total taxable amount of $304,986,055.

1998 to 1999 Tax Role Comparison: There is 3.9% increase in the number of parcels and there is a 0.62% increase in taxes and assessments billed.*

*Note: Taxes and assessments billed reflect the rates determined by various Taxing Authorities multiplied, if applicable, by the assessed value on property determined by the Property Appraiser?s Office.

Property owners should receive a separate bill for each piece of property they own according to the way the deed is recorded. However, failure to receive a tax notice for a particular piece of property does not relieve the property owner of their obligation to pay their taxes, as Florida law makes taxpayers responsible for knowing that their property taxes are due each year.

This year's tax notice includes an insert to help answer taxpayer questions. The insert provides instructions and information, including a listing of taxing and levyng authorities and their telephone numbers, as well as a brief description of taxes and/or assessments that may appear on an individual's tax bill.

Property owners who do not receive their property tax notice(s) by November 12th, should contact the Tax Collector?s Office at one of the following local access telephone numbers (863 area code):

Bartow 534-4721; Lakeland 603-6498; Lake Wales 678-4671; Winter Haven & Haines City 298-7578.

The Tax Collector?s Office will began accepting 1999 property tax payments on Monday, November 1st.

Payments are made at the following locations: Bartow Main Office, located at 430 E. Main Street; Lakeland Branch Office in the Polk County Government Center at 930 E. Parker Street, Room 261; and Lake Wales Branch Office in the Polk County Government Center at 642 State Road 60, W. For customer convenience, tax payments may also be placed in DROP BOXES which are provided in the Tax Collector?s Tag Offices throughout Polk County. For maps to these locations or other information related to your property taxes, please visit the Tax Collector's web site at: www.polktaxes.com

Beginning April 1, 2000, all unpaid property taxes become delinquent.
