PROPERTY TAX DELINQUENCY RATE CONTINUES DECLINE

Tax Collector Concludes 2012 Tax Certificate Sale

BARTOW, Florida/ PR Free/ June 14, 2013

On June 1, 2013, the Tax Collector's Office held their annual real property tax certificate sale. This sale is held online every year, to clean up the delinquent tax rolls by selling tax certificates to willing investors who receive interest for paying off the delinquent taxes owed.

Joe G. Tedder, Tax Collector for Polk County, reports that 15,819 tax certificates were sold in the online tax certificate sale this year. This represents 90.6% of the $19,295,518 unpaid balance of taxes owed, slightly better than the previous year's 89.25%.

For the 2012 tax year only 4.73% of the real property tax roll was delinquent at the beginning of the tax sale, down from 5.34% a year ago. This year's delinquency rate was the lowest since 2005.

The Tax Collector's Office also reports that the 2.00% average interest rates awarded to investors were the lowest rates ever, a savings to those property owners with outstanding taxes owed.

At the conclusion of the online tax certificate sale, $1,821,439 in delinquent tax certificates remained unsold, compared to $2,450,527 a year ago. These county-held tax certificates will be available for sale at www.polkfl.realtaxlien.com.
