NOVEMBER TAX DISCOUNTS SAVES POLK PROPERTY OWNERS MILLIONS

2012 Property Taxes Are Now Due

BARTOW, Florida / PR Free / December 17, 2012

A four percent November discount motivated taxpayers to pay their Polk property taxes early last month, saving $14 million in early payment discounts. The Polk County Tax Collector's Office reported this week that 74.3 percent of the total real estate and tangible personal property tax revenue for 2012 had been collected by November 30.

Taxing authorities received distributions of $365,979,689 based on November receipts, leaving $14,685,328 in taxpayers' pockets due to the early payment option. This amount reflects a slight decrease in payments from one year ago, but based on the 4.25 percent lower property tax roll this year, the collection rate is actually up 0.18 percent over the prior year.

Tax Collector Joe Tedder encourages taxpayers to pay early and save, stating "During the busy holiday period, we encourage taxpayers to mail in their payments, take advantage of the early payment discounts and avoid the rush." Taxpayers have until December 31 to receive a 3 percent discount. "Just like with the payment of income taxes, the date your envelope is postmarked is what's important. If your tax payment is postmarked on or before Monday, December 31, you are eligible to receive the 3 percent discount."

Tax payments may be made in the following ways:

  • Paid in person at all Office Locations: All payments must be received before 5:00 PM, Monday, December 31.
  • Paid over the internet at www.Polktaxes.com. Payments must be made on or before midnight on Monday, December 31.
  • Paid via the Mail: Payments must be postmarked on or before Monday, December 31.
