COUNTY LOCAL BUSINESS TAX RENEWALS IN THE MAIL

New Businesses Should Contact A Local Tax Office To Comply

BARTOW, Florida/PR Free/July 9, 2012

Tax Collector Joe Tedder reminds Polk County businesses that they must have a local business tax receipt if they are conducting business inside Polk County.

On July 1, 2012, the Polk County Tax Collector's Office mailed out 39,280 county local business tax receipt renewal forms. Business tax receipt holders have until September 30, 2012 to renew their 2012/2013 county business tax receipts.

County local business tax receipts were formerly referred to as "occupational licenses" and should not be confused with municipal local business tax receipts. However, while municipal business tax receipts are required for anyone operating within certain city limits, the county local business receipt is required for all businesses operating inside the geographical subdivision known as Polk County.

Individuals and firms doing business in Polk County without a county local business tax receipt should immediately contact the Tax Collector's Office. Businesses that fail to timely renew or obtain a tax receipt are subject to additional penalties and the failure to comply can also result in a criminal violation.

To report businesses operating in Polk County without a county local business tax receipt, please telephone the Tax Collector's Toll Free Hotline at 1-866-OUR-TURN (1-866-687-8876) or send an email to econdev@polktaxes.com.
