Taxpayers Informed About Year End Deadlines

BARTOW, Florida/ PR Free/ December 27, 2011

The Tax Collector's Office will be closed on Monday, January 2, for New Year's. Normal office hours will resume on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

Customers wishing to make payments before the year-end deadlines have the following options:

To renew vehicle registrations by the end of the month, and to qualify for the 3% property tax discount, property owners must mail in their payment with a postmark recorded on or before December 31; or make an online payment at on or before December 31; or visit one of the Tax Collector's Branch Offices on or before 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 3, to pay in person.

It is worth noting that since the Tax Collector's offices will be closed on Saturday, December 31, walk-in payments may be made during business hours on Tuesday, January 3. However, the Tax Collector reminds property taxpayers who are seeking to apply their 2011 property tax payment as a deduction on their Federal 2011 IRS Return, to make their property tax payment on or before December 31st in order to qualify for this exemption.

Joe Tedder, Tax Collector for Polk County, explains, "The time at which a person pays their property tax can be critical in their saving money. We really want to make sure everyone knows about these important dates and deadlines."
