TEDDER CRITICIZES OFFICIALS ON LACK OF ACTION

TEDDER: STATE OFFICIALS SHOULD TAKE ACTION

BARTOW, Florida/PR Free/July 14, 2011

He argued that this is money owed to the citizens of Polk County and the State of Florida. The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas agrees.

Tedder and other Florida tax collectors, as well as many county governments, are engaged in lawsuits against the major online companies to recoup unremitted tourist development taxes. Tedder's office is responsible for collecting and enforcing the tourist development tax, often referred to as "bed taxes" which are used to promote tourism throughout Florida.

Tedder concluded, "How much of Florida's legitimate taxpayer money are they going to let slip away to these tax avoiders? If there is a dime on the side walk I am going to pick it up. Based on Florida's economy, I have no idea why the Governor and Cabinet would not do the same."
