COUNTY LOCAL BUSINESS TAX RENEWALS IN THE MAIL

Tax Receipt Required For Those Doing Business In Polk

BARTOW, Florida/ PR Free/ July 5, 2011

On July 1, 2011, the Polk County Tax Collector's Office mailed out 40,612 county local business tax Receipt renewal forms. Business tax receipt holders have until September 30, 2011 to renew their 2011/2012 county business tax receipts.

County local business tax receipts were formerly referred to as "occupational licenses" and should not be confused with municipal local business tax receipts.

Individuals and firms doing business in Polk County without a county local business tax receipt should immediately contact the Tax Collector's Office. Businesses that fail to timely renew or obtain a tax receipt are subject to additional penalties and the failure to comply can also result in a criminal violation.

In a notable change, due to new provisions in state law, state licensed broker associates and state licensed real estate sales associates are exempt from Polk County?s local business tax receipt requirement beginning in the 2011/2012 tax year. However, the new exemption does not apply to any previously unpaid Polk County local business taxes. To report businesses operating in Polk County without a county local business tax receipt, please telephone the Tax Collector's Toll Free Hotline at 1-866-OUR-TURN (1-866-687-8876) or send an email to [email protected]
