TAX COLLECTOR'S OFFICE BRACING FOR YEAR END DEADLINES

TAX COLLECTOR'S OFFICE BRACING FOR YEAR END DEADLINES

12/13/10 - BARTOW

Adding to the seasonal rush are the observed holiday office closings. The Tax Collector's Office will be closed for Christmas on Friday, December 24, and Monday, December 27. The office will also be closed on Friday, December 31, for New Year's.

To qualify for the 3% property tax discount, taxpayers have the following options:

  • Mail in their payment with a post mark recorded on or before December 31;
  • Make an online payment at www.PolkTaxes.com on or before December 31; or,
  • Visit one of Tax Collector's Branch Offices on or before 5:00 PM on Monday, January 3, and pay in person.
It is worth noting that since the Tax Collector's offices will be closed on Friday, December 31, walk-in payments may be made during business hours on Monday, January 3. However, the Tax Collector reminds property taxpayers who are seeking to apply their 2010 property tax payment as a deduction on their Federal 2010 IRS Return, that they must make their property tax payment on or before December 31 in order to qualify for this exemption.

Joe Tedder, Polk's Tax Collector, explains, "The time at which a person pays their property tax can be critical in their saving money. We really want to make sure everyone knows about these important dates and deadlines."
