TAX REMINDERS SENT TO LOCAL BUSINESSES

TAX REMINDERS SENT TO LOCAL BUSINESSES

Local businesses Have Until September 30 To Renew County Business Tax Receipt

BARTOW, Florida/ PR Free/ September 1, 2010

If you are doing business in Polk and haven't renewed your county local business tax receipt for this year, you might find a reminder postcard in your mailbox this week.

Joe G. Tedder, Tax Collector for Polk County, is stepping up his office's efforts in an attempt to drive greater voluntary compliance with the laws governing county local business taxes.

With the expansion of the business tax renewal period by approximately 30 days, beginning in July instead of August, and with a renewal deadline of September 30 fast approaching, the reminder notice should be especially helpful to businesses that have not yet renewed their county local business tax receipt.

Any businesses operating in Polk without a county local business tax receipt should immediately contact the Tax Collector's Office. Failure to timely renew or obtain an initial receipt will result in additional penalties and costs, including a possible criminal violation.

Businesses that have not received a renewal package or those needing to obtain an initial application for a county local business tax receipt can go to the Tax Collector's website, www.polktaxes.com, to renew online or download an initial application. Or you may contact the Tax Collector's Office by telephone at (863) 534-4731. Business owners may all renew or apply at any one of the Tax Collector's Branch Offices.

County local business tax receipts were previously referred to as occupational licenses and are used to fund county economic initiatives administered through the Central Florida Development Council.

To report businesses operating in Polk County without a county local business tax receipt, please telephone the Tax Collector's Toll Free Hotline at 1-866-687-8876.
