COUNTY LOCAL BUSINESS TAX RENEWALS IN THE MAIL

Anyone Doing Business Inside The County Is Required To Hold A County BTR

BARTOW, Florida/ PR Free/ July 1, 2010

On July 1, 2010 The Polk County Tax Collector's Office sent out 40,416 County Business Tax Receipt renewal forms, according to Joe G. Tedder, Tax Collector for Polk County. This year however, unlike previous years, businesses have 90 days to renew their county business tax receipt.

"Anyone engaged in a business in Polk County has until September 30 to obtain a County Local Business Tax Receipt (BTR), regardless of where in the county their business operates," reminds Tedder. A County Local Business Tax Receipt was formerly referred to as an "occupational license" and should not be confused with municipal local business tax receipts. 2010-2011 amounts due for County Business Tax Receipts are as follows:

The 2010-2011 tax amounts represent a 5% increase over last year. Businesses that have not received a renewal package or need to obtain an application for a County Local Business Tax Receipt can go to the Tax Collector's website, www.polktaxes.com, to renew online or download an application. Renewal payments and applications can also be processed at any one of the Tax Collector's branch offices.

Individuals and firms doing any business in Polk County without a County Local Business Tax Receipt should immediately contact the Tax Collector's Office. Businesses that fail to timely renew or obtain an initial receipt are subject to additional penalties. Failure to comply can also result in a criminal violation.

To report businesses operating in Polk County without a County Business Receipt, please telephone the Tax Collector's Toll Free Hotline at 1-866-OUR-TURN (1-866-687-8876) or send an email to [email protected]
