TEDDER ADVISES PROPERTY OWNERS TO PAY EARLY, SAVE MONEY

Some Property Owners Still Have Not Received Their Bills

BARTOW, Florida/PR Free/Novemeber 24, 2008

With all the rush surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday season, it is easy to overlook whether you've received that important piece of mail from the Tax Collector's Office. However, for 6,970 property owners, that's precisely the case.

The Tax Collector's Office reports that it has received return mail on close to 7,000 property tax bills, representing 1.65% of the tax roll. "While that number is low and reducing steadily every year because of the joint efforts of our office and the Property Appraisers Office," according to Joe G. Tedder, Tax Collector, "It is not too late to get those bills into owners' hands. We want to give the taxpayer every opportunity we can to save money."

Those property owners have until March 31, 2009 to pay their taxes, but they will miss out on the discount savings of associated with an early payment. Home owners enrolled in the tax installment program remain unaffected by this deadline.

This year, because November 30 falls on a Sunday, Tedder advises taxpayers to mail in their tax payments instead of paying in person. "Just like with the payment of income taxes, the date your envelope is postmarked is what's important."

Online payments are conducted at www.polktaxes.com. Taxpayers who make payments by mail can use their cancelled check as a receipt or they can go to www.polktaxes,com and print off a receipt for taxes paid.

Property owners have until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 1 to make payments in-person at any of the Tax Collector Branch offices at the following locations:

BARTOW MAIN Branch Office - 430 E. Main Street, Bartow

LAKELAND Branch Office - Polk County Government Center, 930 E. Parker Street, Lakeland

HAINES CITY Branch Office - 74 Maxcy Plaza Circle, Haines City

LAKE WALES Branch Office - Polk County Government Center, Lake Wales Plaza, 642 State Road 60 West, Lake Wales

Finally, tax payments may be placed in drop boxes located inside the branch offices at the above locations and at the Winter Haven Tag Agency, located at 300 Avenue M, N.W. Normal office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday (excluding weekends and holidays).

For more information, go to www.polktaxes.com or you may call the Polk County Tax Collector's Office at (863) 534-4721.
