Occupational License Renewal Packages Mailed

BARTOW, Florida/PR Free/August 8, 2006

Central Florida Development Council of Polk County spends more than $1 million annually to drive business and promote the economy of our community. The bulk of those funds are generated by the sale of the Occupational Tax (Licenses).

The Tax Collector's Office recently mailed over 40,000 occupational renewal packages to account holders operating businesses throughout Polk County.

There are three categories for Business or Occupational licenses:

Class A "Non-regulated Business" = $30 Annually
(Not licensed, certified or registered by the state)

Class B "State Regulated Business" = $55 Annually
(Licensed, certified or registered by the state)

Class C "Declared Business" = $300 Annually
(Special Event, Stall Market, Casual Loan Operation, Fortune Telling, Graphic Entertainment, Extreme Entertainment or Fireworks)

Note: Classifications are determined during the application process.

Mail or online payments must be postmarked/date stamped no later than September 30. Walk-in renewals are due no later than 5:00 PM, Monday, October 2. Payments may be made at the Tax Collector?s Bartow, Lakeland, Haines City and Lake Wales branch offices.

Any business with delinquent tax due from a prior period will see a key difference this year. Those businesses? renewal notice will see a total due that includes penalties and collection costs, etc., in addition to the current billing amount.

Other changes in the process have to do with convenience fees. This year, businesses will not pay a convenience fee previously charged for online credit card/e-check payments or mail-in credit card payments. However a convenience fee will be charged at the branch offices for walk-in counter payments with a credit card.

To report businesses operating in Polk County without an Occupational License, please telephone the Tax Collector's Toll Free Hotline at 1-866-687-8876.
