THREE DEADLINES & HOLIDAY SEASON PRESENT CHALLENGE TO TAXPAYERS

Tax Collector?s Office reminds taxpayers to act sooner rather than later

BARTOW, Florida/PR Free/December 19, 2005

With so much happening in the last week of the year, it?s easy to see how someone could forget to renew their registration or pay their property taxes on time.

Generally, the deadline for renewing mobile home and commercial vehicle registrations, as well as qualifying for the 3% property tax payment discount is December 31st. However, this year December 31st falls on a Saturday. As such, the following deadlines apply:

  • Any payments made by mail must be postmarked by Saturday, December 31st.

  • Property tax or mobile home registration renewal payments made on the internet at www.PolkTaxes.com must be made on or before Saturday, December 31st.

  • Mobile home registration renewal payments made via automated telephone must be made on or before Saturday, December 31st.

  • Any payments made in person must be conducted before 5:00 PM, Tuesday, January 3rd. (The mobile home registration renewal period is not affected by weekends. They are due by December 31st, however there is no penalty for late renewal until January 11, 2006)

Florida law requires that mobile home decals and registrations be renewed and replaced before they expire. To renew mobile homes, owners should provide a previous registration or registration renewal notice. The cost of renewal will vary according to the length of the mobile home.
